October is Cyber Security Awareness Month

National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is a month long event that occurs every October with the focus on cybersecurity awareness. UofR's Information Security is planning a number of activities and initiatives on campus to raise awareness around cybersecurity.  These activities include: a communications campaign, a security awareness fair in the Commons, and information sessions over the course of the month.

“Why should students care of take the time to focus on Cyber Security?”

Students should care because there are scams that target students to steal research, extort money, or commit identity theft. Also, it is the norm in most businesses and government agencies where students may soon be employed, so it helps with the transition into the workplace. The goal of Information Security's Director, Shana Bumpas, is to build awareness and inform students of cyber threats as well as how to defend against them. 💪🏻

The first event for the month is the Cyber Security Fair 🔑 in the Hanging Lounge of the THC tomorrow from 10am – 2pm.
